The five finalists for the William C. Morris Award, which honors young adult literature by a previously unpublished author, have been announced. The award is sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). I am embarrassed to say I haven't read any of them! How did
that happen?!
- Ash by Malinda Lo (a fairy tale about a girl's adventure to true love with help from fairies and magic)
- Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl (a Southern Gothic love story)
- Flash Burnout by L.K. Madigan (deals with family, drugs, and romance)
- The Everafter by Amy Huntley (dead teen who re-experiences past times in her life)
- Hold Still by Nina LaCour (moving on after a friend commits suicide)
