Ah, it's 63 degrees and a gorgeous sunny day here in Southern California; we're headed off for a beach walk within the hour (a tradition for us on Christmas). We had a lovely morning of opening stockings and tree presents and I did well in the book department:
- Street Names of Santa Barbara--it gives the history of many of our streets, which is kinda' cool.
- Shanghai Girls by Lisa See--this is one of the books for my MUS Moms book group (and it's a hardback...so decadent!)
- Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas Kristof adn Sheryl WuDunn--I am really excited about this one and will probably count it towards the Women Unbound Challenge
- Love in Translation by Wendy Nelson Tokunaga--saw this recommended on someone's blog so am looking forward to it
- Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo--a new British author (hey, it'll count for the Typically British Challenge!). My daughter is currently reading his novel War Horses, which is aimed at upper elementary school level. She is loving it
- The Ultimate Book Club Organizer. Actually, I got 2 of these since I am in 2 book groups :-) For both I am the "secretary" and I don't do a good job of keeping track of what we've read so this will surely help.
I hope you and yours have had a wonderful Christmas filled with love, laughter, family, fun, and books.

I have the Shanghai Girls, too, so we'll have to chat about it when we read it! Merry Christmas!
