Isn't podiatry for old people?

So I've had this little bump on one of my toes (third on the right if you must know) for a couple months. I pretty much ignore it because I don't see it often (here's an unnecessary detail: it's between the toes). Then yesterday afternoon I took off my walking shoes and BAM! Pain in my toe! And, the pain woke me up at least 2 times during the night. What the heck?! I decided it was a corn and wore one of those goofy corn pads all day. It felt better. And, no, this isn't my foot in the photo...

By 4:00 today I decide I should go to urgent care (my doctor couldn't see me for weeks). I was secretly hoping for it to be a corn even though that would be totally embarrassing to be at urgent care for a corn! But, 2 hours later I am looking at my x-ray with the kind doctor and he is saying "it's a bone spur. Here's your referral to podiatry. They'll probably have to do a little surgery, but don't worry, it's just local shots in your toe."

Local shots in my toe?! Like that is supposed to make me feel better! I know, in the grand scheme of things, a bone spur is not a big deal. I just resent that this is how I am spending my spring break. I am whining. There's no other excuse for it. I'm done now. Thanks for listening.

Hope it gets fine soon!! Shots in the toe sucks, but hope it doesn't come back!

Helen, I'm so sorry about your toe! Hang in there. I have a similar problem with the joints of my big toes -- an inherited condition but also due to too much jogging over the years. Eventually I'll need surgery as well. I haven't had any shots. The orthotic inserts are a must! They redistribute the weight on my foot and I can walk and jog without pain, for now.

The best part is I don't get to see the doctor until April 12! I feel like an idiot with my little limp. Haven't quite figured out yet what shoes to wear to work for a week or so while I wait. It might have to be flip flops...

Bummer! But your feet need to be in shape for the Festival of Books!

Softdrink--I know, right?! I am finding that it doesn't hurt if I wear flip flops so thank goodness we're having good weather!
