It's National Library Week!
Yep, you heard correctly. We've got our own week, not just a day! There have been many posts around the book blogosphere about National Library Week, not a surprise really, since we all love books and a fair number of us are librarians.
I am doing two guest posts this week (my first ever!), one for Kate at the Neverending Shelf and one for Kristen at Bookworming in the 21st Century. Please do check them out as I won't repeat the posts here (I don't want to bore anyone with double posting).
I am doing one other activity for National Library Week and I have posted about it before. This Friday (during the school day) and Saturday (9:00 to 3:00) I am running the California Read-a-Thon! I've modeled it after the Dewey Read-a-Thon, but this one is for California School Libraries. I think it's probably a lot to ask school librarians to participate, but I am going to give it a shot. I've got 11 schools participating so we'll see what type of participation I get.
I've got mini-challenges planned for each hour, I've got tons of prizes that were donated by various publishers, and I'm opening my school's library from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday. I assume I won't get much reading done since I'm doing all the work solo, but I am looking forward to seeing what the librarians do with their schools/students.

Wow! You're running the CA Read-a-thon! How wonderful! Do you mind if I "steal" your National Library Week button for my own blog?
Suko--of course you can steal the Library week button!
Good luck, Helen!! I can't wait to hear how it turned out! Hope you and the students have a lot of fun!!!
I'm so glad I stumbled across your blog. I can't wait to read more! Check out my blogs if you get a chance (the second one is new, but it will follow my writing journey).
