Review: If I Stay (Forman)

Title: If I Stay
Author: Gayle Forman
Genre: YA fiction
Pages: 196
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Challenges: YA
FTC Disclosure: I borrowed this book from my school library
Summary (from the inside flap): "Just listen," Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel. I open my eyes wide now. I sit up as much as I can. And I listen. "Stay," he says.

Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones. Stay true to her first love--music--even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind? Then, one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it's the only one that matters.

Review: I never even read the description of this book before I read it (and I read it in one day!). I just knew it was getting really good reviews so I jumped right in. And wow! It's so good!

I was completely wrapped up in what Mia would decide, how people would try to convince her of what decision to make. I know this all sounds vague, but I don't want to give away what happens or what Mia's decision is.

I thought the characters were believable, the situation really interesting, the emotions were real (yes, I got all teary), and I just really liked it. I can't wait to recommend this one to students this coming week!

Everyone says how good this one is but for some reason I couldn't get into it. Maybe I didn't give it long enough of a chance.

Amanda--it always feels strange to not like a book everyone else seems to like. I just couldn't get into the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I felt like one of only 3 people on the planet who didn't like it!

I really like this one, and I think I was missing my family at that time so it was extra meaningful for me I guess.

Niki-Ann--So true, this definitely pulls on the emotional reader!

Christa--I cannot imagine reading this while missing my family (or anyone really important); it would just go straight to your heart and tear ducts!

Helen--The music theme was fun, I agree

Aths--Doesn't that wish list just keep growing? I think there aught to be a year where no new good books are written so we can all catch up...not really, but sometimes it feels that way

I have this book in the TBR pile and picked it up for the same reason you did- great buzz! And I loved the premise of the book. Hmmm, now I guess I should just get it out and read it!

Thanks for sharing this one!

Suzanne--it's a really quick read, but it makes you think, which I like
