Thank you to Elizabeth at Miss Wisabus for hosting this first mini-challenge.
What were some of your favorite children’s books when you were younger? Do you have any new favorites now that you’re an adult? Have you included any children’s or YA titles in your Read-A-Thon stack this year?
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl has to be on the list. I thought it would be so amazing to find giant insects in my garden and then fly away with them. What an imagination that man had!
The Nancy Drew series was another favorite (along with the Hardy Boys), but I must admit that about a year ago my daughter and I tried to read one and they seem REALLY dated. So, we got the "new" Nancy Drew: Girl Detective books and they have been much more successful in our house.
Judy Blume was also a favorite. Pretty much anything she wrote was a hit with me.
I don't have any children's books on my list to read today, but I have mostly YA.

I'll have to take a look at the new Nancy Drews. I know the old ones are dated, but I don't think I could take tampering with the sporty little roadster, etc... Then again, I haven't tried to read any of the books recently! Way too many favorites for me -- Nancy, Betsy-Tacy, Melendy Family, Boxcar children, Beany Malone...
My kids have favorites, too -- and we're currently delighting in buying their second cousins scads of books. We just got their Christmas present, "Santa and the Little Teddy Bear" by Peter John Lucking. I saw this online, so it's new to us, and it's just wonderful. It will bring the joy of the Christmas spirit to both families -- and the boys will fall in love with the illustrations.
Liz--I must confess to liking the new Nancy Drews. She still dates Ned, still drives a cool car, her cousin is a computer whiz and her good friend is there as well as are her dad and Hannah, the housekeeper
