There is just something about India in particular that has captured my heart. I went there for a month or so when I was in 7th grade (part of a semi-world tour with my family). I love the food, the people are so friendly, the sights were amazing. Yes, I had short hair so everyone thought I was a boy, but I still had a great time.
Given my love for India the South Asian Author Challenge was right up my ally. However, I wish I had taken advantage and read books about Pakistan and Sri Lanka for this challenge. The year isn't over yet though so that may still happen.
Thank you to S. Krishna for hosting such a great challenge and for letting me "steal" ideas from her challenge when I was preparing my Middle East Challenge.
I initially signed up to accomplish the lowest level of 3 books, but have read 7 so far.
- Invisible Lives by Anjali Banerjee
- Keeping Corner by Kashmira Sheth
- Shine, Coconut Moon by Neesha Meminger
- Climbing the Stairs by Padma Venkatraman
- Seaglass Summer by Anjali Banerjee
- Creating a World Without Poverty by Muhammad Yunus
- Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri
- Secret Keeper by Mitali Perkins
- Haunting Jasmine by Anjali Banerjee

Congratulations! You just reminded me of how little I accomplish for my challenges!
I love Indian food! I am a teacher at a Bilingual school and our Indian students excell incredibly when they learn Spanish. It is usually their third or even fourth language and I love to hear them speak...They speak beautifully and excell...
Darlyn--It's my first year of challenges so I went a little crazy on them. I may sign up for fewer next year so that I can read whatever I'm in the mood for. However, the challenges got me to read things I wouldn't have necessarily and I loved some of those books.
Kiki--A bilingual school; awesome!
