Life and Family:
A friend of mine is starting up a non-profit and has asked me to participate on the Board and be the Vice President. I've said yes and am excited and a bit nervous. We're calling the group Turn the Page Uganda (get it? Turn the page like a book and turning a new page for the future...). We're not totally ready to go live yet (I am doing the blog/website), but our mission is to get books into the hands of students and teachers in Uganda. My friend is an elementary teacher and visited schools in Northern Uganda this past summer where she discovered that most schools have no books of any sort. So, we are mobilizing. Anyone have any experience in the non-profit world? Advice? Contacts in Uganda?
Work:
What a strange work week: I worked Monday and Tuesday, had my usual Wednesday off plus Thursday then worked Friday. And all day I thought it was Monday! It was definitely quiet at school on Friday; I think many students decided to make it a 4-day weekend. We had a nice thing happen: a mom called and said she has lots of points on Paperback Book Swap and wants to buy us some books for the library! I've chosen 6, but she said I can get more... any suggestions for "must have" YA books that you think might not be on my radar?
Reading and Books:
My biggest news of the week is that today, November 14, 2010 is my one year blogoversary! A whole year! Wow! Looking back over the past year, here's what I see in my blogging and reading:

I've worked in non-profit accounting for most of my career, but haven't been involved in a startup. I'd be glad to help if I can, though - let me know!
Bonnie--I am so excited that you've been with me from the beginning! I did start my school blog about a week earlier and realized that I didn't want personal stuff on a school blog so I'd better get going on another one!
