How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you feel so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be here at A Few More Pages every Friday.
One of my book groups chose this book for our April reading. I wasn't able to attend the meeting where they chose the book and it feels strange to start a book I know nothing about. I am choosing not to read the summary on the back of the book and instead to just launch right into reading it.

That's an interesting sentence! I haven't heard of this one at all.
Aths--I thought it was a very intriguing first sentence, but I am having a tough time getting into the book
I have read all three -- The Book of Ruth, Map of the World, and Disobedience. My favorite was Map of the World, maybe because it so horrified me that something terrible could happen so easily. It's the kind of thing that could have happened to me. A neighbor was keeping my son while carpet was being laid at my house, and she called to say her son and mine were missing. I left the carpet guys and went flying up the street, to discover our sons lost in the woods. My son, only two or three, had fallen in the stream and was sitting there crying. Luckily, the water was only an inch or two in depth.
I love Jane Hamilton's books, and this is a great opener.
It's been awhile since I read this one, so I may just have to reread it!
Thanks for sharing.
Here's MY FRIDAY MEMES POST
Sounds sneaky to me.
Here's my beginning: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2011/04/book-beginnings-on-friday_15.html
Wow - that opening line makes for quite a few possibilities of what could happen next!
Here's my beginning:
http://thebookgatherer.blogspot.com/2011/04/book-beginningson-friday_15.html
Bonnie--That is so scary because of all the possibilities that story entails! Thank goodness he was alright. I am having real trouble with Disobedience
Laurel-Rain--I think I am learning that Jane Hamilton isn't quite the right author for me.
Bev--Very sneaky and SO awkward!
Book Gatherer--I've read about half and he hasn't done any of the things I think I would do (even though I'd never read someone else's email)
LOL I love your reaction to the beginning! It is definitely a beginning that catches your attention!
Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
Katy--Great beginning, not a great book for me. I do love this meme!
