This meme is hosted by Katy at A Few More Pages
How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you feel so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be here at A Few More Pages every Friday.
I am doing the One, Two Theme Reading Challenge and one of my themes is "dance" so when I saw a review of this book I wrote it down on my list of books to get. Then, I got an iPad this weekend so thought I'd experiment with buying an iBook and chose this one.
This opening line doesn't really set any stage or grab me, but I am enjoying the book so far.

I like the voice.
Here is my BBF
Oh, I like the visual images, especially the part about the dogs wearing thermal coats and offended expressions....
Thanks for sharing.
Here's MY FRIDAY MEMES POST
I like it. I can imagine the cold. And, btw, I love the cover.
I read this a few weeks ago! I struggled a little bit in the middle when I got tired of the story jumping forward and backward in time, but by the end I was eagerly turning the pages. Enjoy!
Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
Juju--I like the voice as well though the story is actually told from a few different perspectives
Laurel-Rain--I liked the thermal coat wearing dogs as well!
Rikki--I like the cover, too though I feel like there are SO many books with the back of women's heads on them
Katy--I am starting to struggle a bit (and I am half way through), but I definitely want to know what happens
You're right about that first sentence! It doesn't grab me either! But I have heard a lot of good things about this book!
Aths--I've heard good things too and so far I'm doing alright with it
Is Russian Winter a YA or an Adult title? I am always looking for more historical fiction about Russia to tempt my readers.
Anne--The book is definitely adult. Not for content, but for style. I just don't think teenagers would find it all that interesting.
