How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you feel so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be here at A Few More Pages every Friday.
I have wanted to read I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore since it was published, but haven't been able to until now because all our copies are always checked out (a good sign). So, I "stole" it from my school library to read this summer.
"The door started shaking. It's a flimsy thing made of bamboo shoots held together with tattered lengths of twine."
I'll confess that I didn't like the first couple pages at all. It seemed too fantasy-like for me. But, after those initial pages, I have really liked it so far (granted I am only on page 50....).

Ah, I have seen this book around and also saw the trailer for the movie. Didn't really seem like my genre though, but I'll be interested to know what you think of it.

I am curious about this one, too. I had a visual image after reading this opener.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you think. There have been mixed reactions to this one.
Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
Book Gatherer--The movie seems more scary to me so I think I am just going to stick to the book
Laurel-Rain--I really did enjoy it (I've finished the book since posting this)
Katy--I liked it!
I think that's a great metaphor for a flimsy door. Very nice first line even if you weren't excited by the first two pages.

I've heard so much about this book! And then there's the movie too. Can't wait to hear what you think!
Aths--I think I'll skip the movie... too scary in some parts for me.
Bev--yes, the descriptions were really good (and so was the rest of the book)
