How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you feel so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be here at A Few More Pages every Friday.
Last night I began reading Mitali Perkins' Monsoon Summer. I have really enjoyed her other two books that I've read (Bamboo People and The Secret Keeper) so I am looking forward to this one.
"Berkeley students basked in the spring sunshine. They were watching a group of Hawaiians hula to the beat of traditional drums."
I think these two sentences give a sense for the writing and the scene at the beginning of the book. I haven't read much this week since we're on vacation but I am hoping this book will be a good vacation read.

I haven't read any of Mitali Perkins' books! Though I do have her Secret Keeper here! This one also has such a magnetic cover and premise! I've always felt that Perkins' books have some kind of a pull.
Aths--I liked Bamboo People more than The Secret Keeper, but Mitali Perkins does a good job of weaving a story!
I haven't read this author, but I like this beginning.
Thanks for visiting my blog.

I've not heard of this author either. That beginning is a good one though - anything could happen!
