Last week the Butterflies Alive exhibit opened at our local Natural History Museum so I took my daughter and her friend. What a magical experience, I love sitting still with the butterflies fluttering around me.
My mother is working as a volunteer docent at the exhibit so she is going to get us in some time when it is closed so we can be there in silence without the crowds.

Oh, they are gorgeous! Seeing butterflies always reminds me of a picture book I received in my late teens from the author, Leo Politi, who came to speak at the library where I was working. It was called The Butterflies Come, and was the story of how the butterflies return to Carmel in large groups. The illustrations were gorgeous, just like these photos.
Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
Laurel-Rain--It's just such a peaceful experience to be in the butterfly enclosure
What a glorious visit it must have been. Have a wonderful weekend.
How fun! It's been ages since I've been to a butterfly exhibit.
Hi!
Beautiful snapshots! I was in a butterfly house once and it's amazing that the butterflies come and land on you. Have a great day!

It's so much fun to watch butterflies! They make perfect photo posers!
Oh! To see that in person! Such beautiful pictures.
Irene--Glorious is a great word for it
Alyce--We go to the exhibit each year since it's free with our membership and brings us such pleasure
Sherrie--It' so exciting when one lands on us! We try to remember to wear pink to attract them
Aths--They do make stunning photos without much effort. I like the one where I can see its face
Literary Feline--Definitely take the opportunity to go in one of these exhibits if you can
They are such beautiful creatures, aren't they? And I love how you captured the color contrast between the orange wings and the pink flowers.
Trish--Thank you! I loved the contrast in butterfly colors and flower colors when I was there
Diane--I totally messed up and hit delete on your comment instead of Publish. Sorry! Diane said, "They look too beautiful to be real...great shots Helen." Thank you! It does feel a little unreal to be in the butterfly enclosure
What a wonderful time, Helen! I love the pictures and can only imagine the beauty and peacefulness sitting there with those lovely, fragile creatures. Thanks so much for sharing with us!
What stunning, amazing pictures. I've never been to a butterfly exhibit but after seeing these beautiful photos I'm going to make sure I get to one!
Kay--I am definitely going back again and again to enjoy and to do more photography
Amy--Oh go for sure! It really is a wonderful experience. But, be sure to wear pink or red and maybe a butterfly will land on you!
Stunning! I remember visiting a butterfly exhibit a number of years ago. It was great. I envy you that you get to go without the crowds. That would be awesome!
They are so pretty. Our zoo has the butterfly exhibit. I need to go see them and get some photos.
Beautiful. I hope you'll get to go when it's quiet too.
Love the combination of the butterflies and the flowers! Wonderful pictures!
I'm a bit late (it's been a busy weekend so far), but here's mine: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2011/06/saturday-snapshot-graduation-weekend.html
Marie and Mary--Yes, I must keep on my mom to get us in when the crowds are gone, I think it will be really special
Leslie--How nice that your zoo has a permanent butterfly exhibit. Ours is only here for the summer each year
Bev--Thank you, I'm off to see yours right now
