The book Shine by Lauren Myracle was a good one so I was pleased when it was on the list as a finalist for this year's National Book Award for Young Adult Literature. Then the drama began. Check out this article from the Huffington Post for details, but basically they went back and forth as to whether a mistake was made and should Shine be included. Myracle has since dropped her book out of consideration.
Ick. If the panel made a mistake, leave the book on the list. Don't draw attention to your blunder by making a big hullabaloo and don't make a hard-working successful author feel like crap. Shame on the committee.
