Summary (from the inside flap of the book): Elise Watters seems to have it all--a blissful marriage, a gorgeous Victorian home surrounded by lush gardens, and a dream job running her late mother's herbal boutique.
But on the eve of her first wedding anniversary, Elise makes a shocking discovery that turns her life upside down and casts doubt on everything she thought she knew--about her marriage, her friends, and even herself. As she treads into dangerous territory, Elise is forced to wonder: is her whole future at stake? Or is paranoia getting the best of her?
If she is to believe what she sees, Elise has every reason to fear for her life....
Review: Another A.J. Banner! This is always something to look forward to so I was excited when this book showed up in the mail. I have read, liked, and reviewed her other books, After Nightfall, The Good Neighbor, and The Twilight Wife, but I think this one is my favorite. I read it in 2 sittings within 24 hours.
This novel has a small cast of characters, each of whom plays a pivotal role in the plot and I liked that. I also liked that I was never sure who was a "bad guy" and who was good. Elise seems confused, paranoid, and unsure of what is happening around and to her, while Chantel seems like a good friend. We think. Then there's Brandon, her ex-husband, and Kiernan, her current husband. Both have major creep vibes. But so do Chantel and Elise.
The plot is also tight with most of the action taking place in Elise's cool Victorian house and the surrounding woods. And her garden, which has lots of herbs and plants that can cause damage--the book is called Poison Garden after all.
I liked the twists and turns, the fact that I was unsure throughout the book, and the tension that existed amongst all the characters.
Challenges for which this counts: none
