It feels really good to be out at the schools again, seeing my colleagues in the flesh, and having more normal interactions. I even went to a restaurant for the first time in 14 months. We ate outside and the nearest table of other people was at least 20 feet away so I felt okay about it. There is definitely a re-entry process that we're all going through.
Today is Mother's Day in the US, but my family doesn't make a big deal of it. I live in the same house as my mom, so we see each other every day. But my daughter sent me a gift this year: 4 big chocolate chip cookies that she claims are the best she's ever eaten. I've had two already and I must agree!
If you are a long time reader of this blog you know that I am not good with audio books. I need to see the written word or my mind wanders. However, I do well with talk radio and podcasts (I think that means I am getting old). Here are some of my go-to podcasts these days. Do you have favorite podcasts to recommend?
- Ear Hustle--based in San Quinten prison (ear hustle means "gossip" in prison)
- NY Times The Daily--in depth interviews/stories about something in the news
- NPR's Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me--political game show
- True crime podcasts--I'd love recommendations for this. I seem to randomly find them
I am loving the books I've been reading lately, with no duds for a long time. And my system of choosing books at the start of the month, having a pile from which to choose on my coffee table, is working well. But, my daughter comes home in a couple weeks and I know that means less reading. For a good reason.
