A super busy first week of school is done. We are short staffed at most of our school sites and since we have COVID protocols to follow, most of us that work out of the District office were recruited to help out at sites. I worked at an elementary school this week, which was a major change for me. It was so fun to see the little kids excited to start school (how tiny are the kindergartners?!) and to help welcome them at drop off in the morning. I even got to be a crossing guard for a couple of days. Talk about fun: helping people and chatting with them was great. What a positive way to start my day; props to all the crossing guards out there!
I actually ran a full mile without stopping this week. I know, it shouldn't be a big deal, but for me it is. I am not a runner. At all. So a mile is fantastic for me. And I did it in 10 minutes. I am building up to the 2 miles for next year's triathlon and this gave me confidence that I can do it.
My daughter is home for one more week. It has been wonderful for me to have her home these past three months while she has done her remote internship for the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs. To see her up and at work at 6am (she had to work East coast time while we are in California), diligently reading, writing, researching, and meeting with interesting people on Zoom was fun. And (mama brag time) she learned a couple days ago that she got a remote Foreign Service internship for the school year working with the US Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe (did you wonder what that flag was?!).
If you are interested in being a CYBILS panelist or judge, this is the link for the application. Deadline is September 1 at midnight East coast time.
