Week 2: (November 8-12) – Book Pairing with Katie at Doing Dewey: This week, pair up a nonfiction book with a fiction title. It can be a “If you loved this book, read this!” or just two titles that you think would go well together. Maybe it’s a historical novel and you’d like to get the real history by reading a nonfiction version of the story.
This is a bit of an unusual pairing, but I am going with the theme of enslavement and rebellion. I would pair the nonfiction graphic novel (wait, what do we call it if it's nonfiction since it's not a "novel"?) Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts by Rebecca Hall & Hugo Martínez with the middle grade novel Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. Both of these books showed me sides of enslavement that I didn't know before and they are both excellent.
