Sunday Salon: March 27, 2022

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

I have had such a wonderful week! Here's the run down, day by day, as I work my way through the east coast. I spend the day working and also manage to fit in workouts most days in the early pre-work hours. Walking/jogging in the cold is so not fun (I tried that in Ithaca) so I've been using hotel fitness rooms, which are a whole new community for me.
  • Sunday my daughter and I drove back to Vassar College (seeing an Amish community along the way, which I didn't expect and hadn't seen before), had a delicious Indian meal, and just hung out.
  • Monday I drove to Boston, returned my rental car, and settled in at the hotel. I looked forward to not driving anywhere for a few days.
  • Tuesday I spent the evening wandering around Boston and the north end with 2 of my best friends from college. We had a wonderful dinner at an Italian restaurant that was recommended by someone at work (thanks to Jon and his dad!). It was a good choice as they made homemade pasta.
  • Wednesday I felt like a hermit, working and reading in my hotel room. I had dinner at Quincy market (think yummy falafel wrap).
  • Thursday I drove to New London, Connecticut and met up with a college friend. We had intended to walk around Connecticut College (our alma mater), but it was raining so we just hung out at a restaurant instead. Best line from this visit? "Helen, it's me. You can tell me anything." So true.
  • In the late afternoon, I drove to Old Greenwich and met up with another college friend for dinner. I hadn't seen her since we graduated in 1987; it was amazing to spend time with her and catch up; boy did we do a lot of laughing! I drove back up to Poughkeepsie, NY after dinner. So much driving!
  • Friday I saw my daughter again and had dinner with her friends; they are such a wonderful group of young people! On Saturday morning we intended to walk Vassar's labyrinth (2 of my daughter's friends helped build it in a course they took), but my rental had a flat tire so I spent 3 hours waiting to get it fixed. NY really does have the worst roads I've seen on this trip.
  • Saturday afternoon I drove to Columbia, Maryland to stay with a woman I have known since pre-school. She posted the above image on Facebook Saturday morning and it made me feel so good! Boy do we have fun laughing and reminiscing! She is a master quilter and it was nice to sleep under a few of them (see below). And, spring is springing as I travel south, which is so nice to see. I also got to see a family of deer and a fox at her house.
  • This morning I drove first to Arlington, Virginia to visit family friends (you can see how cold it is by my red nose!) and then on to Fairfax Station, Virginia to spend time with a friend with whom I studied in Germany during junior year abroad. Both visits were wonderful.

This isn't a bookish thought, but I just had to share. I am a total lurker on Twitter and hardly ever post. But, I saw this post and couldn't stop myself from responding. Check out how many retweets and likes I got!

Here is is the current state of my 2022 challenges. The image is a link to my challenges page.
