This past week felt super busy at work after the week of jury duty. But, busy in a good way; I feel like I'm getting a lot done and that I've figured out the rhythm of this new job. I also managed to fit in some fun socializing:
- Sunday we had a retirement party for a good friend. It was super fun to see lots of my favorite former colleagues!
- Monday I had lunch with an educator friend and it was so good to catch up; I miss seeing her all the time! That night I had dinner at a friend's house and met a couple new people that I really liked. It felt good to hang out with a bunch of women who are my age and at my stage of life (read: no spouses and with grown kids).
- Tuesday I had lunch with 3 former colleagues. All of us have left or are leaving the school district so it was good to process and laugh about it all.
- Wednesday I attended a pot luck for one of the boards I am on. They are a really nice group of people and it was great to see them outside of a meeting.
- Thursday my daughter came home again and it's nice to relax with her, figuring out her apartment for next year and all that needs to be done. And, we had a visitor Thursday that was really fun. We met Alex in 2012 in London when he taught a dance class that my daughter took. We've stayed in touch ever since and he now lives in Los Angeles part of the time so came up for a quick 24-hour visit. He and my daughter hadn't seen each other in 5 years and it was nice to see them interact as adults.
- Father's Day--my dad is out of town, but my daughter's dad (my ex) invited us over for a BBQ. I know, strange to spend Father's Day with my ex, but we get along and he had also invited over his brother and sister-in-law and some friends so it was nice.
My triathlon is in only 2 months and I am feeling woefully out of shape. So this morning I was back on the bike for the first time in many months and I'm meeting a friend from high school for a walk later this morning. Couple all this fun socializing with binging an excellent K-drama (Sky Castle) and a beautiful day here in Santa Barbara and it's all good!
I am working my way through my June stack of books though I definitely read less when my daughter is home. And I feel like I am not making much progress on my reading challenges lately. When I have picked books to read in the past couple of months I have paid no attention to if they count for a challenge. Oh well. We still have 6 month of the year left.
