Since last Sunday we've celebrated the 4th of July here in the US (it's our independence day), but I didn't really feel like celebrating a country that is falling apart, denying women/women of color/poor women their basic rights and allowing prayer in school (it will be fascinating to see what happens the first time a non-Christian teacher leads students in prayer without parental permission!). What are they coming for next? Probably marriage equality, birth control, and goodness knows what else. Sigh.
My parents came home from their 5-week holiday on Thursday, but both of them are Covid positive so that's no fun for any of us.
I spent two days down in Santa Monica for work. My daughter came with me and just hung out while I had meetings to try to sign a new school district account. Sounds boring, but it was wonderful because the superintendent of the school district used to work in Santa Barbara and it was great to see him again; he's such a great guy. And... I got to meet two of my team members in person! These two are my closest team members and it was so much fun to be together in the same place (they are usually in Texas and Mexico), to hug, to talk, to giggle, and to get to socialize, not just talk about work. So good.
My daughter and I watched two really good things in the past few days: the movie Gone Girl, which is sooooo good! Why did I never read the book?! And We Are Lady Partz, which is fantastic! It's only got one season of 6 episodes, but it is well worth watching.
I am getting better at listening to audio books thanks to my daughter suggesting we listen to them as we drive around. We are currently listening to Nothing to Envy about North Korea. I've read the book already, but it's been so long that it's good to hear it again.
