Our high school Alumni Association hosted our big end of the year event last Sunday and it was a roaring success. We gave out over $290,000 in scholarships and awarded our Distinguished Alumna. Such a wonderful, positive event!
Tuesday was my annual doctor's appointment in which I had to face the facts that I have totally back slid (is that even a phrase?) in my eating and exercise. Sigh. In the late afternoon I joined my former teaching colleagues on the picket line. I must say that union work is so energizing for me. The first photo is just a small group of the picketers, there were probably about 250 this time around so it was a good showing. The second picture I am with Chris, in addition to being a full time teacher, he's my boss for my edtech job. How fun is it that I get to picket with my boss?!
Wednesday was the Van Gelderen Lecture (honoring a former UCSB History board member and supporter). The lecture was given by a top graduate student on Japanese women tourism in the 1960s and '70s. It turned out to be super interesting and she was an engaging speaker!
Thursday a high school friend was in town so we got to go for a walk. She is the one I have lunch with whenever I am in Vegas so it's extra special that we've gotten to see each other twice in the span of a few weeks. Saturday morning was the farmer's market and breakfast with a dear friend. She is one that always makes me laugh so it was a great way to start the weekend. Saturday night I went to the symphony, the last concert of the season.
This morning I am headed to my parents' house to have Mother's Day breakfast with my mom (and dad).
Not much to report here except I am really enjoying listening to audio books for my two book group books each month. A year ago I never would have said that, but I am really glad that I've given audiobooks a try.
Here is is the current state of my 2023 challenges. At this point, I am counting individual books for multiple categories in each challenge, but I'll replace them with other books throughout the year.
