Sunday Salon: September 17, 2023

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon.

This week seems to have flown by and I'm not sure why. Last Sunday I had a virtual book group meeting with my high school girl friends (we talked about Walking the Bowl. 3 of the 5 of us read it and liked it, the other two were too depressed by chapter one and couldn't continue). Tuesday I ran a board meeting in which we generated a ton of great ideas to increase our membership and I took my parents to the airport. Throughout the week I had a bunch of work meetings at local schools, which was fun because I got to see former colleagues/friends, and I did tons of prep work for my upcoming reunion.

Thursday a friend and I went to the local (gigantic) Planned Parenthood book sale and I got the above books for $17 total. Not a bad haul, I'd say. We went out to dinner afterward and it was great to catch up.

I got a surprise phone call Friday morning asking if I was interested in doing contract work for my old company (the one that laid me off in January). There was still a ton to work out about the idea, but 3 hours later they called again with a (probable) job offer! So I've got the weekend to think about it (different job in a different department and a bunch less money). I am meeting with them Monday to get the details.

We're cruising our way through September and this is when I start to realize I probably won't finish many of my challenges. Every year the geography one gets me in particular because I am just not going to search for books set in specific states that I am missing. I love geography and want to complete it, but I never do.

Here is is the current state of my 2023 challenges. At this point, I am counting individual books for multiple categories in each challenge, but I'll replace them with other books throughout the year.
