Last Sunday's symphony was really wonderful: Tchaikovsky plus an "Homage to Tchaikovsky" with a Spanish guitarist. He played 2 encores, one of Argentinian music and the second a piece from his hometown in Spain.
Friday night I heard Percival Everett (author of James) speak. He was super interesting and I loved that he explained the "code switching" lesson with the children, [SPOILER ALERT] why he was ok with James being Huck's dad, and how James could dream about the philosophers. These were areas that some members of my book group had trouble with and it was great to hear the author's reasoning behind them. And, yes, this means that it helped to have a Black man explain depths of the novel that this white woman didn't pick up on.
The not so fun thing is that someone got ahold of my checking account information and has been withdrawing money daily via ACH. Great. I had to deal with my bank's fraud department (3 times), open a new checking account, and change the account on all my online bills. So. Not. Fun.
I feel like I am asking this way too late, but has anyone heard from Shelleyrae at Book'd Out over the past few months? She was so active and now nothing. I am worried and finally thought to ask all of you.
