Our current president and his administration have been very busy doing lots of hateful things, big (starting immigration raids and deportations, firing all DEI hires in the federal government, only allowing male/female on all federal forms) and small. What a hateful group they are. Why are they so afraid?! I think all these actions have been affecting my reading as I've found myself reading hopeful, inspirational books about cultures/groups that are different from my own.
Thank you to Sue at Book by Book for telling me about the Diversity Reading Challenge hosted by Smells Like Ink. I've joined and updated my challenge image, spreadsheet, page, and reviews for the year.
A friend and I got to hear Tommy Orange (author of There, There, and Wandering Stars) speak this past week. He dislikes public speaking, and it was evident that he was nervous. But he is funny! He has a very dry sense of humor, and I enjoyed hearing his stories and his answers to the audience's questions. Hearing an author speak about their journey to writing, how they came upon their plot ideas, etc., is always so interesting!
