Sunday Salon: April 6, 2025

The Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz.

  • No books. I am plowing my way through Opus by Gareth Gore and almost done with Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood.

This past week, I discovered that two of my clients are avid readers, which makes me so happy! One of them is planning on starting a book blog, so we had a fun discussion about that.

Monday, I had a dance coaching session where we worked on Cuban motion (think all the hip-swiveling in Latin dances). Boy, is it difficult! I followed up the dance with a golf clinic, in which I did much better than I have been doing, so that felt good. On Wednesday, I visited a potential apartment with my parents in a retirement place (they said yes and signed an agreement, a huge step forward); this is not going to be an easy transition! Wednesday evening and Friday I danced.

Saturday was the nationwide Hands-Off march, during which people in the US showed their resistance to the current administration. I marched with about 4,000 people in my town (the march stretched for a mile!); it felt good to be with thousands of like-minded people. Will it make any difference? Probably not, but it feels better than not doing anything at all.

Saturday night I attended a Planned Parenthood fundraiser. I am always a bit ambivalent about these sorts of events. While I truly believe that Planned Parenthood provides necessary health care and services to anyone who needs it (I worked there for a year back in the day as a pregnancy counselor), it feels weird to be at an event. Shouldn't we all just donate the money and have it all go directly to the services it provides rather than paying for a fancy event?

Today, I am seeing my parents as they begin to decide what to take with them to their new apartment in a couple of months, and tonight, I am going to dinner and a show (a Steely Dan cover band) with friends from dance.
